Karthigai Deepam 2025: Bharani Deepam Lit at Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswarar Temple

The sacred Bharani Deepam was lit early this morning at the Arunachaleswarar Temple as part of the Karthigai Deepam festival 2025. Special Abishegam and Dheeparathanai were performed after the temple opened.

At 3:30 AM, the Bharani Deepam was lit inside the Lord’s shrine. A yagam was conducted at the Artha Mandapam, where twenty Bharani Deepams were lit by Sivasariyargal and displayed to devotees. A large number of people participated in the procession and worshiped the holy lamp.

The festival’s highlight, the Maha Deepam, will be lit atop the 2,668-foot Thiruvannamalai hill at 6:00 PM this evening, drawing thousands of devotees.

The Girivalam will begin at 07:58 AM on Thursday, December 04, 2025, and conclude at 05:37 AM on Friday, December 05, 2025. Devotees are encouraged to participate in this holy pilgrimage and experience its profound spiritual benefits.

Devotees Carry 300-Kg Maha Deepam Kopparai Up Annamalaiyar Hill for Karthigai Deepam

Devotees in Thiruvannamalai carried the Maha Deepam (giant ghee lamp) up the Annamalaiyar hill for the Karthigai Deepam festival, even as the region experienced continuous rainfall. The sacred ghee-filled barrel, weighing over 300 kilos, was lifted and taken uphill by trained volunteers.
