Om Arunachalashwarar Temple Chithirai Vasantha Utsavam Festival 2024: Day 9

At the Tiruvannamalai Arunasalesuvarar temple, the Chitrai Vasant Utsavam was held in pouring rain on Aril 22rd, 2024. On the ninth day, a puppet flower throwing ceremony was held in front of the Mahi tree. Despite the heavy rain, devotees performed darshan of Sami.

Chitra Pournami: Prime Timing for Girivalam Expedition in Tiruvannamalai

The ideal time for undertaking Girivalam on the occasion of the Full Moon Day (Pournami or Poornima day for the Tamil Calendar month of ‘Chithirai’) at the Tiruvannamalai Temple of Lord Arunchaleswarar has been announced!

As a tradition over the last few centuries, lakhs of devotees visiting to have the Darshan of Lord Arunchaleswarar and His Consort Goddess Unnamulaiamman undertake the ‘Girivalam’ (Undertaking a walk around the bottom of the mountain) before the Darshan!

In this situation, the Temple administration of the Tiruvannamalai temple has announced that the ‘Thithi’ of Pournami in the Tamil Calendar month of Chithirai is set to occur from 04.16 AM (Tuesday, 23rd April) until 05.47 AM (Wednesday, 24th February). As such, the devotees may undertake the Girivalam` during this period!

Om Arunachalashwarar Temple Chithirai Vasantha Utsavam Festival 2024: Day 8

On the 8th day of the ongoing ‘Chithirai Vasantha Utsavam’ (Spring festival falling in the Tamil Calendar month of Chithirai), on Sunday, 21th April, ‘The Doll Flowers Shower’ ceremony (when doll flowers are sprayed on the main deities with special poojas) was performed in the night and ‘Olivu Utsavam’ (the mythical event of Lord Siva searching for the God of Love, ‘Manmadha’) was also performed!

On the 5th Day of the Chithirai Vasantha Utsavam (Spring festival in the Tamil Calendar month of Chithirai) on Thursday, 18st April, the deity of the Lord Periyanayakar was taken in a procession to the 3rd corridor of the temple and the 1st event of ‘Olivu’ – as per the Puranas (mythological epics), Lord Siva being in a search of the God of Love, known as Manmadha – was performed.
