Guidelines released for the Karthigai Deepam Festival observations!

In a notification released by the District administration regarding the Karthigai Deepam Festival on the 26th of November, it is stipulated that, as per Chennai High Court judgments, only 2500 devotees will be permitted to participate in climbing the mountain. The following regulations must be strictly observed:
  • A Special Centre will be established at 5.00 AM on the Deepam Festival Day, the 26th of November, at the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government Arts College, located on Thiruvannamalai Sengam Road. Priority will be given to the first 2500 devotees, and admission tickets with photographs will be provided to them.
  • Only devotees within the age group of 18-50 will be allowed to climb the mountain.
  • Devotees must carry copies of Identity Proofs, such as Aadhar cards or other Government-issued ID cards, along with a medical certificate from a doctor.
  • Devotees will be restricted to the route near the temple tower. No permission will be granted to climb via any other routes.
  • Devotees ascending the mountain are permitted to carry only a drinking water bottle. Additionally, they are required to bring back the empty water bottles upon return.
  • Importantly, devotees are strictly prohibited from carrying any inflammable articles, including camphor, crackers, etc.
It is noteworthy that the divine flag-hoisting ceremony at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple took place in the early morning on the 17th of November. The Maha Deepam will be lit on the summit of the 2668 ft mountain on the 26th of November.

Karthigai Deepam Festival 2023 – Day 4 – Vinayagar and Chandresekarar Ursavam

On the 4rd day of the festival, the the deities were then taken on a procession from the Thirukkalayana Mandapam, along the Mada Veedhis with the deities of the Lord Chandrasekarar.

Karthigai Deepam Festival 2023 – Day 3(Night) Lord Chandkeshwara on the carriage of Rishabam

Night On the 3rd day of the festival, during the night, the special Ratha vilakku Deeparadhanai and Panchamuga Deeparadhanai were performed for the deities of Lord Priyanayakar, His Consorts Uma and Kandhar, Lord Vinayaka, Lord Subramanya, with His Consorts Valli and Deivanai, and Goddess Ambal in the form of Lalthambigai, and Lord Chandkeswarar.

After the special Deeparadhanais, the deities were then taken on a procession from the Thirukkalayana Mandapam, along the Mada Veedhis with the deities of the Lord on the carriage of Simmam (lion) and His Consort Ambal on the carriage of annam (swan), and Lord Chandkeshwara on the carriage of Rishabam (bull).

Karthigai Deepam Festival 2023 – Day 3 Chandrasekarar and Vinayagar alangaram

During the noon session of the 3rd Day of the Deepam Festival at Thiruvannamalai, the deities of Lord Chandrasekharar and Lord Vinayaka was taken on a procession around the street adjacent to the temple corridors. The event of Thiruvizha Undial (Festival Hundi) was performed at the 3rd corridor near the Kodimaram (flag-tree).

Deepam Festival 2023 – Day 1 (Night) – Panjamoorthigal Alangaram

On the first day of the festival at 10.00 pm, the Panchamurthys were carried on a procession on Mooshikam (mouse), Peacock, Silver Ahikara Nandhi, Hamsam and Simham (lion) respectively around the temple corridor streets offering Darshan to a large crowd of devotees!

Festival begins with flag hoisting at Tiruvannamalai Annamalaiyar Temple on Karthikai Deepam 2023!

The hugely popular Deepam festival at the Lord Arunchaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai started early this morning Today (Friday , 17th November) with the divine flag-hoisting ceremony!

Renowned as the place of fire among the Panchabootham places and the sanctuary for salvation, the Tiruvannamalai Annamalaiyar Temple has commenced the much-celebrated Tirukarthikai Deepam Festival. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the majestic hoisting of the golden flag tree, symbolizing the commencement of the festivities.

The temple gates opened at 2 o’clock in the morning, heralding the start of the special abhishekahm prayers dedicated to Annamalaiyar and Unnamulai Amman. The sacred rituals continued with special abhisheka prayers for the Panchamurthis, including Vinayagar, Murugar, Annamalaiyar, Parashakthi Amman, and Chandrasekarar. The deities were adorned with vibrant flowers, creating a divine spectacle.

As part of the celebration, a special Deeparathan, invoking the divine light, illuminated the temple, casting a spiritual glow on the devotees present.
