Bharani Deepam was lit in Thiruvannamalai Om Arunachaleswarar temple!

The tenth day of Karthigai Deepam festival is being celebrated at this Tiruvannamalai temple today is well known to us. It must be noted that today at 3:50 am in the morning with deepam brought from the sanctuary, Barani deepam was lit.

Sivachariyars took this Barani deepam (mounted in Annamalaiyar’s sanctuary) in procession inside the temple. They took it to all the shrines inside the temple like Goddess Amman sanctuary, Lord Ganesh sanctuary and Lord Murugan sanctuary. It is worthy to note that the district administration has banned the spiritual devotees from entering the temple to see Barani and Maha deepam.

The surprising piece of information is that it was only the second time ever in the history that Barani deepam was lit without the presence of devotees. Today at 6pm in the evening Maha deepam would be lit on the mountain that is of 2668ft.
