Itinerary at Tiruvannamalai Thondareeswarar temple

The hottest part of the summer known in Tamil as Agni Nakshatram or Kathiri Veyyil, has started on Thursday, 4th May. It will conclude on 28th May.

On the starting day of Agni Nakshatram, The deity of Lord Siva in Thiruvannamalai Thondareeswar temple was adorned with garlands made from citronella (Vettivet in Tamil). A vessel, known traditionally as Tarabhishekha paathiram, was kept the near the deity.

The deity is adorned with vettiver garland with a special reason – in order to keep the Lord cool from the oppressive hot session in progress. The evaporation of the liquid in tarabhishekham Paathiram will also help the Lord with extra cooling effect.

3rd day celebration of spring festival

Spring festival (Vasantha Utsavam) 3rd day was celebrated at Thiruvannamalai temple.

The deity of the temple is placed in an awning (Pandhal) made of citronella (Vettiver) in the Panneer Mandapam along with His Consort offering Darshan to thousands of devotees. The admirers in the temple are waving the fans (Venn-saamaram). The devotees have carried Him to the Panneer Mandapam. Colour flowers are showered on him from a pretty statue.

The Lord is placed in the Panneer Mandapam along with His Consort – He offers Darshan first to Arunagiri Yogeeshwar.

The deity is brought in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Goddess. A special Mandagapidi Deeparadhanai is performed.
