Celebrations at Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple: Aadi Pooram on 1st August!
Tamil calendar month Aadi is considered to be sacred. Several festivals occur with temples in Tamil Nadu grandly celebrating them with devotion and great enthusiasm.
The day on which the star ‘Pooram’ falls in the month of Aadi is considered very sacred and celebrated as ‘Aadi Pooram (It also happens to be the birth of one of the 12 Alwars (Vaishnavites Saints), the only woman among them, Andal who married Lord Vishnu himself (Lord Ranganathar)!
Aadi Pooram was celebrated yesterday (Sunday, 1st August). In the Thiruvannamalai temple of Lord Annamalaiyar with His Concert Goddess Unnamulai, the divine flag-hoisting ceremony was performed on this day (1st August, Sunday) between 6.00 AM to 7.30 AM on the Flag pole tree located outside the sanctum sanctorum of the Goddess Unnamulai Amman.
The deity of the Goddess will be taken on a procession in the 5th corridor of the temple both in the morning and evening.
