Arudhra Darisanam at Thiruvannamalai on 23rd December

The grand and sacred occasion of ‘Arudhra Darisanam’ was performed at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunchaleswarar temple yesterday (Sunday, 23rd December).

Special abhishekhams were performed at the early morning from 3.00 AM on the deities of Lord Nataraja and His Consort Goddess Sivakami were specially adorned. Subsequently, Deeparadanai and Mahadeepam ‘mai’ (Kohl) was applied on the deity of Lord Nataraja.

Later, the deity of Lord Nataraja was taken on a procession along the temple corridors – madaveedhi along the Rajagopuram or the main temple tower.

Special decorations for the opening of Sorga Vaasal and Deeparadhanai

In the Thiruvannamalai Temple of Lord Arunachaleswarar, today (Tuesday, 18th December and the 3rd Day of the holy month of Margazhi in Tamil calendar) being the sacred day of Vaikunta Ekadasi, special decoration and adornment was done for the deity of the Lord Venugopala Swamy in the 2nd corridor of the temple and Deeparadhanai will be performed. ‘Sorga vassal’ (Gates of Paradise) located in the north of the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord Venugopala Swamy was opened and a special Deeparadhanai were performed.

Start of the holy Tamil caledar month Margazhi

Major events on Margazhi 1st at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple

Yesterday (Monday, 16th December) was the start of the holy and sacred Tamil calendar month of Margazhi. The Utsavar deity of the Lors Somaskandhar and the Goddess Parasakthi Amman will be adorned with silver shields.

Religious discourses or lectures on the classic Tamil ‘Thiruvembavai’ will commence and be conducted in from of the Sanctum Sanctorum of the deity of Amman from morning 6.00 AM to 7.00 AM.

Special Deeparadhanai for copra

A special Deeparadhanai was performed for the giant oil copra used for lighting the Maha Deepam for the Karthigai festival on top of the mountain in Thiruvannamalai. Earlier, the giant oil copra has been lifted down from the top of the mountain.

This special Deeparadhanai was performed during the Pradosham day at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple.

Maha Deepam copra lift down after 10 days

The various events of the 10th Day Lamp lighting ceremony of Maha Deepam on the peak of the temple on the 10th Day of the Karthigai festival, including:

Bringing of the ghee from the temple for the lighting of the Maha Deepam
Carrying the ‘ghada’ cotton cloth used as the giant wick for the lamp to burn
Pouring the ghee in the copra lamp pot and inserting the cotton cloth as the wick and lighting the lamp.
The mountainous route and the various ponds
The lamp copra pot being brought down after the 10th day of the kakarthigai festival on 4th December morning (today)

Further, Special Deeparadhanai is scheduled to be performed for the Deepam Copra oil pot at 6.00 PM in the ‘Aayiram Kaal Mandapam’.
