Special ‘Varuna Yagam’ performed at Thiruvannamalai temple for rains

Praying for rains in the drinking water-starved state of Tamil Nadu, ‘Varuna Yagam’ was performed by the Sivacharyas and ‘Varuna Japam’ was chanted in the morning today (Wednesday, 8th May) at the Brahmatheertham in the famous Lord Arunchaleswarar temple at Thiruvannamalai.

Classical Karnatic instrumental music – Nadaswara, Veena, flute and mirudhangam – was played with the ragas of Amsavardhini and Megaranjini parrying for rains.

The ‘yaga kalasas’ were brought by the Sivacharyas from the Sanctum Sanctorum of Lord Kalyanasundareswarar. Then, the poojas were performed at the Brahmatheerthamand the sacred water from the kalasams was sprayed on the Brahmatheertham.

The concluding day of the grand Vasantha Utsavam on Friday at Thiruvannamalai temple

On the concluding day of the grand Spring Festival – ‘Vasantha Utsavam’ – at the Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple at Thiruvannamalai, on Friday, 19th April, the deities of the Lord Somaskandhar and His Consort Goddess Sri Parasakthi Amman were taken on a procession on the ‘mada veedhis’ (Surrounding streets of the temple).

After the procession, the deities were carried to ‘Indira Theertham’ Mandapam located on the banks of the Ayyankulam. Special Theerthavari was performed on the deities.

At night 10.00 PM, the climax event of the festival, ‘Manmadha Dhaganam’, was performed in the presence of the deity of Lord Somaskandhar in the 3rd corridor of the Thiruvannamalai temple.

Friday, 19th April is the concluding day of the grand Spring Festival (Vasantha Utsavam) celebrated at the famous Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple in Thiruvannamalai.

The deities of Periya Nayakar Somaskandhar along with His Consort, Parasakthi Amman was taken on a procession along the Mada veedhis (temple surrounding streets) and the deities were carried to

Indira Theertham’ mandapam located on the banks of Ayyankulam pond. Special ‘Theerthavari’ was performed.

The next grand event of ‘Manmadha Daganam’ is scheduled to be performed at 10.00PM on the 3rd Corridor of the temple.

7th Day of Vasantha Utsavam at Thiruvannamalai temple

On the 7th Day of the grand Vasantha Utsavam festival in progress at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunchaleswarar temple, on 16th April, the deity of the Lord Periya Nnayakar was carried to the Panneer Mandapam located near the ‘Magizha maram’ in the 3rd corridor of the temple. The event of showering of dolls dressed in silk was performed.

6th Day of the Chithirai Festival at Thiruvannamalai Temple

On the 6th Day of the grand Vasantha Utsavam, the deity of the Lord Periyanayakar Somaskandar was especially adorned and was brought to the specially erected ‘Vettiver pandhal’. The deity was offered prayers and worship by the devotees for some time. Subsequently, the event of showering of the dolls of the service girls dressed in silk with 10 holy rounds around the pandhal.

Subsequently, the deity was brought to the ‘Thacholi Mandapam’ (where the temple construction workers took rest when the temple was built) and a grand Deeparadhanai was performed.

As Chithra Pournami is scheduled o start at 7.11 PM on 18th April, Thursday, the devotees visiting Thiruvannamalai, after casting their votes in their respective polling booths, may visit during the evening or night.

It is a great tradition and extremely sacred and good to take a ‘pradakshan’ (a round) of the mountain This will also provide relief from the scorching sun!

4th Day of the Spring Festival at Thiruvannamalai Temple

On the 4th Day of the grand Spring Festival (Vasanth Utasvam) being celebrated at the Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunchaleswarar temple on Saturday, 13th April, the deity of the Lord Aruncahelswarar was brought to the Panneer mandapam located near the Magizha maram on the 3rd corridor of the temple. Subsequently, the ceremony of showering the deity with dolls decorated with yellow silk clothes was performed.

On 14th April, Tamil New Year Day with the start of the Tamil calendar year Vikari, a very rare and special occurrence of the sun’s rays falling directly on the Lingam of the Lord in the sanctum sanctorum at 6.30 AM.

The Hindu Almanac or ‘Panchangam’ will be offered to the Lord Sambandha Vinayakar at the Sanctum Sanctorum and then the Panchangam will be read by the Sivacharyas.
