0 Comments/in Deepam 2019, News & Events/by omarunachalaThe much-awaited most momentous event of the GRAND 10-day Thiruvannamalai Thirukkarthigai Deepam festival, the lighting of the ‘Maha Deepam’ was performed at 6.00 PM on 10th December.
Prior to the lighting of Maha Deepam, the deities of Panchamurthys (Lord Vinayaga, Lord Muruga, Lord Arunachaleswarar, His Consort Goddess Unnamalaiyamman and Lord Chandikeswarar) along with the deity of Lord Arthanareeswarar were taken from their Sanctum Sanctorum and Taken out through the 2nd corridor of the temple to the Mandapam to offer Darshan to the enormous gathering of devotees.

The deities of the Panchamurthys taken out to have the Maha Deepam Darshan.
The deity of Lord Arthqanareeswarar carried out to offer Dasrshan to the devotees (only once a year).
The deities of Panchamurthys carried on a procession on the temple corridor streets.
The deity of Lord Periyanayagar Somaskandhar was carried on a special golden ‘Rishabam’ (bull) carriage and taken on a procession on the corridor streets of the temple.
Theerthavari performed at Thiruvannamalai temple

Theerthavari was performed with the deities of Lord Muruga and His Consorts Valli Deivayanai carried to the Thheerthavari Mandapam in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum of Lord Bhairavar.
Maha Deepam lit on the mountain peak in Tiruvannamalai: Karthigai Deepam 2019
0 Comments/in Deepam 2019, News & Events/by omarunachalaThe sacred Maha Deepam was lit at 6 PM (on Tuesday, 10th December 2019) at the mountain peak as the climax part of the grand Karthigai Deepam festival in progress at the Tiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple.
Lakhs of devotees participated on this grand occasion and prayed the Maha Deepam.
A large number of devotees have visited from the other places to have a Darshan of the Maha Deepam and pray. Thus, all the streets of Tiruvannamalai appeared to have been flooded with the teeming devotees!
During the evening, the adorned deities of the ‘Panchamurthys’ were carried on palanquins and placed in the Mandapam. At 5.59 PM, the deity of Ardhanareeswarar was taken out. Subsequently, ‘Aganda Deepam’ was lit in the Tiruvannamalai temple complex.
At the same time, ‘Maha Deepam’ was lighted on top of the mountain on the ‘copra’ (oil pot) kept ready filled with ghee.
Even as the Maha Deepam was lit, the swarm of devotees collected both inside and outside the temple complex rendered the sky with the devoted chanting of “Annamalaikku Arohara”with the ecstasy of devotion.
