Bharani Deepam light today morning in Tiruvannamalai

Lakhs of devotees participate in the Karthigai Deepam festival here on Friday.
The festivity began with the lighting of the ‘Bharani Deepam’ (earthen lamp) in the ‘ardha mandapam’ of Arunachaleswarar temple at 4 am. A large number of people worshipped the lamp as it was taken around by a priest.

This evening, Friday, 5th December, Om Arunachala Karthigai Maha Deepam was lighted on top of the mountain. Over 10 Lakh devotees were present on the occasion and had the Darshan.
The sacred maha deepam was lighted on top of the 2668’ mountain top at 6.00 PM.
Lakhs of devotees has the divine Darshan with shouts of ‘Annamalaikku Arohara’!
A big copper vessel containing 1000s of kgs of ghee and camphor with a 300 metre long wick was used as the sacred lamp.The lit lamp can be seen around over a distance of 35 km.The area of Thiruvannamalai was submerged with the large crowd of devotees.
The temple was devoutly aglow with  planty of earthen  lamps lit on the 11 tiers of the temple tower.Devotees are set to perform ‘girivalam’ after this occasion.
Thiruvannamalai is one the 5 temples dedicated to Lord Siva based on the 5 elements of nature. The deepam festival started on 26th November. The sacred lamp ‘Bharani Deepam’ was lit in the temple premises at early morning 4.00 AM.
Earlier, the temple corridors were opened at 2.00 AM and a special Poojai was perfomed on the ‘Panchamurthys’.
Lord Annamalai was decorated with the sacred diamond crown and golden shield.
