And this Thirukkarthigai Deepam festival is especially famous and celebrated in a grand manner at the Lord Arunachaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai. A huge crowd of devotees attend this festival every year and have the holy Darshan of the Thirukkkarthigai Deepam lit on the top of the mountain.
The grand deepam festival for this year at the Lord Arunachaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai commenced yesterday (Thursday, 28th November) at 7.00 PM with the Goddess Durgai Amman festival.
Earlier, during the morning session, special Abhishekham, adornment (alankaram), and Deeparadhanai were performed on the main deity. These were performed on the deity of Goddess Sri Durgai Amman as well.
At 7.00 PM the fully and grandly adorned deity of Goddess Sri Durgai Amman was carried on the ‘Kamadhenu’ carriage (Holy Cow) and taken on a procession on the temple corridor streets.
‘Pidari’ festival is set to be celebrated today (Friday, 29th November.

A special pooja was performed for the special ‘Karthigai Deepam’ festival invitation and then the distribution of the same to the devotees was commenced.
The grand event of the world-famous ‘Karthigai Deepam Thiruvizha‘ at the Lord Arunachaleswarar temple at Thiruvannamalai is scheduled to start with the sacred flag-hoisting ceremony on 1st December and the divine ‘Karthigai deepam’ lamp will be lit on the top of the mountain of 2688 ft high on 10th December.
The event of starting the preparatory work for this grand festival of founding the ‘Pandhakkaal’ was performed on 30th September.
The maintenance work on the various carriages on which the ‘Panchamurtyhs’ – Lord Vinayakar, Lord Subramanya with His Consorts Valli and Deivayanai, Lord Arunachaleswarar along with His Consort Unnamulaiamman and Lord Chandikeswarar – will be taken on a procession on the temple corridor streets.
The Panchamurthy’s will be individually carried on chariots and taken in a procession on the 7th day of the festival.
The various preparatory activities for the grand festival includes arranging drinking water for the devotees, transport, and other basic facilities for the devotees are under progress.
In this scenario, the Sivacharyas performed the special Pooja before the release of the special ‘Karthigai Deepam’ festival invitation paper at the temple of the Lord Sambandaha Vinayakar and then started distributing the same containing details of the festival schedule.
