The inaugural function of setting up the Pandhakkal on the special occasion of the Tamil calendar month Chithirai Spring festival was performed before the Sanctum Sanctorum of Lord Vinayaka in the Thiruvannamalai temple.
Panchangam of new Tamil Year offered to Lord Sambandha Vinayakar
The spectacular sight of the sun rays falling directly on the main deity of the Lord Arunachaleswara on the early morning of the Tamil New Year day of the year Thiruvilambi was witnessed with devotion by thousands of devotees.
Later, the new Tamil Almanac – Panchangem of the new Tamil Year – was offered in the sanctum sanctorum of the deity of Lord Sambandha Vinayakar, located in the 3rd temple corridor of the Thiruvannamalai temple.
The Sivacharyas of the temple read the Almanac and then the panchangams were distributed to the devotees.
Special Pradosham performed on the previous Tamil year last New Moon Day
A special Pradosham was performed in the Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple at Thiruvannamalai on the auspicious day of the Amavasya (New Moon Day) day of the last Tamil calendar month of Panguni, of the recently concluded previous Tamil calendar Year Hevilambi.
Pradosham is a bimonthly occasion on the thirteenth day of every fortnight in Hindu calendar. It is closely connected with the worship of Hindu god Shiva. The auspicious 3 hour period, 1.5 hours before and after the sunset is one of the optimum times for worship of Lord Shiva.
