The grand yearly tradition of the Thirukkarthigai Deepam festival commenced at the famous Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar temple on 28th November (Thursday) and performed with great verve, enthusiasm and paraphernalia for 16 days. The grand festival concluded on 14th December (Saturday) with the Lord Chandikeswarar festival.
Today is the 1st day of the sacred Tamil Calendar month, Margazhi. The commencement of this sacred month of Margazhi was celebrated at the famous Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunchaleswarar temple with the special function of adorning the deities of Lord Periyanayakar and Goddess Parasakthi Amman with ‘Velli Kavasam’.

On the 11th Day of the Grand Thirukkarthigai Deepam Festival at the Lord Arunachaleswarar temple at Thiruvannamalai, special poojas and abhishekhams were was performed on the deity of Lord Chandrasekharar at the temple pond ‘Ayyankulam’, also known by the name‘Theppal Indira Theertham’.
