Itinerary at Tiruvannamalai Thondareeswarar temple

The hottest part of the summer known in Tamil as Agni Nakshatram or Kathiri Veyyil, has started on Thursday, 4th May. It will conclude on 28th May.

On the starting day of Agni Nakshatram, The deity of Lord Siva in Thiruvannamalai Thondareeswar temple was adorned with garlands made from citronella (Vettivet in Tamil). A vessel, known traditionally as Tarabhishekha paathiram, was kept the near the deity.

The deity is adorned with vettiver garland with a special reason – in order to keep the Lord cool from the oppressive hot session in progress. The evaporation of the liquid in tarabhishekham Paathiram will also help the Lord with extra cooling effect.
